Anesthesia: Local Or General
For doing a rhinoplasty both local and general anesthesia is possible. Each of these methods have their own benefits.
• During the local anesthesia the nose is made numb and the surgery procedures are performed while the patient is awake and hears and remembers everything! Sedative medicines are usually used at the same time as local anesthesia to make the patients calm and relaxed, sleeping on the bed.
• During the general anesthesia, the patient receives anesthetic medicines and sleeps during the surgery and does not hear or remember anything. Dr. Hosnani’s preference is using general anesthesia.
In the past, local anesthesia was very popular. Because people were afraid of general anesthesia and did not want to get that just for a nose job.
Local anesthesia has a big disadvantage:
The unpleasant memory that remains in the mind of patient.
For an ordinary person who is afraid of seeing a droplet of blood, observing, hearing and experiencing a surgical operation is a disaster. Some patients even get shocked in the middle of surgery. For this reason, local anesthesia is not very popular these days even if it is accompanied by sedative medicines. Nowadays, thanks to the very safe anesthetic medicines. Surgical operations under general anesthesia is very safe. Most famous surgeons of the world opt for general anesthesia for rhinoplasty.
