Dr. Hamidreza Hosnani

ENT Specialist | Rhinoplasty Surgeon in Tehran | Nose Surgery Specialist

The trend of rhinoplasty in Iran is not new. A reporter from the ITV network traveled to Iran to speak with Iranian youth as well as one of the country’s most well‑known rhinoplasty surgeons and prepared a report on the subject.

In a 2016 ITV news report titled “Tehran: The Nose Job Capital of the World,” the network examined why Tehran has one of the highest rates of rhinoplasty relative to its population—reportedly even higher than Los Angeles. The report mentions the common sight of young people walking around with nasal bandages after surgery and introduces surgeons such as Dr. Hamidreza Hosnani as prominent rhinoplasty specialists in Iran.
The boom in cosmetic surgeries in Iran is not a new subject.
Today, more rhinoplasty procedures are performed in Tehran than in any other city in the world.
In fact, it is estimated that around 200,000 Iranians go under the knife each year.
I went there to see with my own eyes just how popular this surgery is, and to speak with young Iranians about their reasons for turning to cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic surgeries, especially rhinoplasty, are extremely common in Iran.

Prevalence of Rhinoplasty in Tehran

Because Iran’s capital is, in fact, the nose job capital of the world.
The number of nose surgeries in Tehran even exceeds that of Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood.

In-person Consultation, Kira
Most patients complain about a nasal hump in profile view, a large nose, and the misshapen appearance of their nasal tip.
• Congratulations!
• Thank you very much!
• How is your new nose? Do you like it?
• Yes.

Dr. Hosnani performs about 4 rhinoplasty surgeries per day, 5 to 6 days a week. Nevertheless, his waiting list is always long.
The same applies to other well-known surgeons in Tehran.
Many patients ask Dr. Hosnani to make their noses straighter.
Dr. Hosnani told me that he has declined about one-quarter of applicants.
Because in his opinion, surgery was unnecessary for them.
I asked him what motivates other patients to undergo this surgery.

The most important motivation is self-confidence.
When their motivation is to increase self-confidence, how do you feel about it? What do you suggest to them?
If the patient has a real problem—for example, if their nose is large, deviated, or has a significant hump—I agree to their request.
